There has been a ton of discussion, controversy, and interest lately regarding the relationship between Muslims and America. The discussions regarding the plans for an Islamic community center and mosque in New York near the 9/11 site, and the Florida pastor who threatened to burn a Qur’an in protest.
That prompted my friends and I involved with AxisLIVE to create this idea for a reality T.V. project. Part I will look at: What does it really mean to be a Muslim? What are misconceptions about it? & Specifically What is it like to be a Muslim in America?
— What’s YOUR misconception about Muslims?
— What’s YOUR misconception about America?
— Do You want to be a part of a Reality T.V. Show?
This AxisLIVE Experience is an Invitation for You to participate in a Reality TV Show where You will live with a Muslim family in New York, near the 9/11 Ground Zero site. For those watching the experience around the world, You are invited to be involved in the TV show via Social Media portals.
— Let us learn with You about what it means to be Muslim, and what it means to be Muslim in America?
— If interested, YOU should email info@AxisLive.org
What a great conversation today! Thank you for allowing me to share some of the experiences, as well as to get everyone’s thoughts about the Questions and Ideas that have changed the world.
Without a doubt, so much is possible — and we are uniquely in a position as the AXIS LIVE Leadership Team, to make a meaningful contribution.
Here is the post where we can continue online the discussion we began. Please post your thoughts on this question: * What are the major Questions and ideas which have changed the world?
[The fact that we are such an international group, adds so much to the richness of perspectives we have to discuss and share. Please make sure you include any questions, ideas, or people that are familiar to you, but which may not be as familiar to others.]
Looking forward to the online discussion!
[The next Skype call we will discuss and brainstorm -- what is our Key Idea?
(that we would like to see have an impact on the world)]
We had our first very energizing meeting of the AXIS LIVE Leadership Team, made up of incredible people from all over the world (e.g. Iran, Pakistan, India, Finland, Caribbean, Ghana, Sweden, US, Jordan,…)
If you are part of the Leadership Team, take some time here to introduce yourself to everyone:
– Where are you from?
– Why are you interested in being a part of the Leadership Team? What brings you interest in this topic?
– What is one vision from your heart about you have for what we might do together?
If you are not part of the Leadership Team, feel free to welcome the members and share with them your vision of what you think you would like to see us do together?
I just shot this short clip a few days ago at “Ground Zero”.
Description:
From “Ground Zero” New York City, Dr. Clint Rogers talks about the Moments of Crises we all will face, asking what will be brought out of us in those times? How will you respond in moments of crises?
He also asks what your view is of human nature – are you optimistic that things are getting better, or are you worried things will get worse?
And most importantly, what is your part in the whole – what is Your Compelling Future, what are you willing and excited to live for and create?
Thanks for your all who joined in this course, on whatever level you were able!
Toward the end of one of our team lead meetings, Marriah summed up a lot of people’s feelings, when asking if current students might be able to serve as facilitators for the next course, and just wondering how he could be involved in this course for as long as it was offered.
What do we do next?
As part of continuing this discussion — of “What to do next after the official course has ended?”, I want to offer a few words.
First, I want to do all I can to encourage ANY creativity or ideas – people speaking from their heart about the way they would like the world to be and what they would like to help create and become in the process of inviting these changes.
So, if anyone has different ideas than the one I am about to share – please feel free to explore and pursue them. You should feel free to explore, envision, and create whatever ideas come to you – and I will be very happy to encourage you in that.
Having said that — I’d like to invite those of you who are interested to join the AXIS LIVE Leadership Team.
Background of the ICT4CC Course & AXIS LIVE:
The initial idea for this course came from Dr. Love Ekenberg in response to a conversation he and I had about an idea called AXIS LIVE.
The idea of AXIS LIVE is still very new (just about a year old), and so the initial reasoning of this course was to involve some of the brightest students around the world, those who were interested in connecting with each other and creating something together, in building, improving, and expand the core ideas behind AXIS LIVE.*
Click this link to see the current draft of mission, problem and solution ideas that we came up with for this organization/movement: http://www.axislive.org/about/
___________ The Invitation:
Everyone who wants to can participate on some level (it is such an ambitious idea that there is room for everyone who would like to be involved in whatever level they feel comfortable), but the only thing is we really need a few (perhaps 5-8) who are especially committed, creative, and energetic to serve on what will be the AXIS LIVE Leadership Team.
If you would like to stretch yourself and volunteer to be a part of this LeadershipTeam, please email me (clint.rogers2008 (at) gmail.com) the following information:
your name
your phone number and Skype ID
why you are interested in being a part of the LeadershipTeam
a couple ideas you have for how you would like to see the AXIS LIVE mission come into a reality — in a way that would make you feel excited and “aLive” to be a part of it
if you can commit to spending as much as 3-5 hours a week to start with, depending on what is happening.
When I receive all the emails of those who are interested, I’ll set up individual calls with you, to talk about it further, and then we will have a team call with all those who are ultimately chosen.
What does this all mean for those in the ICT4CC course?
The idea is:
- that this experiences that you had in this course will expand to include hundreds of thousands of people,
- that inexpensive face-to-face travel opportunities will give people more intimate connection,
- that we can create or enhance online platforms to allow ordinary people around the world to connect with each other through technology in more meaningful ways,
- and that we will utilize media (online or tradition) to spread these messages even further.
Among the many things of interest, this will provide countless research opportunities (for people’s thesis or dissertation). We already have 2 PhD students who have expressed interest in doing their dissertation on this topic, and room for about 200 more.
___
So the sum of it is that we are looking for a few of those from this course or elsewhere who would like to join an AXIS LIVE Leadership Team.
This would be those who are interested in the vision of building & using technology, media, meaningful travel, courses, and joint projects — to create a more united world.
We are currently in the process of securing some funding, and feel satisfied that we can find as much as we need for any necessary operations that we dream up which will truly make a difference.
We’re excited to find even more ways in which we can make your life, our community, and this world a better place – in this course and beyond.
Please listen with the intent to learn something new and post any comments or questions that come to you here.

What comments/questions do you regarding this topic?
We have experiences so much together in the ICT4CC/ICT4ID course so far. The trick with anything we learn at school or university, however, is how do we integrate what we learn into our lives so it is more than just a class we took.
“Don’t let your schooling interfere with your education.” ~paraphrase of Mark Twain
So in thinking about — how can you integrate/apply what you are learning here into other areas of your life? How can you gain more from this class (insights/experiences/friendships) that you will take with you into the rest of your life?
Here is the discussion topic for your teams (please post and discuss your responses here):
How might these technologies/tools/strategies which we have employed in this class help a specific organization you know of? (in either: 1) education, 2) commercial business, 3) humanitarian aid NGO/development 4) government 5) religious/cultural organizations)
This is the online space for discussing the Guest Speaker, Dr. James Mayfield, “What is ‘true’? What is ‘real’? Epistemological explorations of how we understand ourselves and each other.”
For any questions and discussion on this topic, feel free to post them here.
I’m looking forward to the info and insights he will share with us.
Here are the logistics on who he is, what the topic is, and how to listen in.
ICT4CC / Axis Live Guest Lecture -
Time:
Thursday, March 4th — at 5:00pm Stockholm Time
Topic:
“What is ‘true’? What is ‘real’? Epistemological explorations of how we understand ourselves and each other”
Bio:
James B. Mayfield, PhD, Professor emeritus in Middle East Studies, author of “The Inigma of Iraq” and part of special envoy toIraq to integrate a post-war democratic system: Dr. Mayfield speaks multiple languages (one of which is Iraqi Arabic), is one of the most experienced international development experts in the world, and has worked in dozens of countries, with a specialty in Egypt and the Middle East, teaching local government development. Learning about and from Dr. Pankaj Naram here in India has been fascinating.
I hope you enjoy this short inspiring story (see video) and contribute your thoughts to the questions below.
“The greatest need in the world is understanding.” – Dr. Pankaj Naram
Please, we’d love it if you share your thoughts:
1. What can we do to better understand ourselves and each other?
2. Are there ways to leverage old and new “technologies” for this purpose?
Nearly 100 top students and professionals from over 30 countries have joined together to innovate new ways for us to better utilize (or even create) emerging technologies that can bridge some of the cultural/philosophical differences in the world.
The idea is that when establishing the right context and environment in working together, we can create something much better than we could if just working on our own.
Please watch this course trailer video, and let us know if you would be willing to help over the next few months in joining with some interesting parts of the course!
